Privacy policy

Dark Window is run by Starfork Labs. This page says what the site keeps about you, why, and who else sees it. We do not sell your data and there are no ads.
What stays on your device
Your saved sites, gear, targets, goals, session logs, scoring rules and display settings are kept in your browser’s local storage. They are not uploaded to us. Clearing your browser data removes them, which is why the site offers a backup code.
Location and weather requests
To forecast a night, the site sends the latitude and longitude of the site you are viewing to our server, which asks weather services (Open-Meteo and 7Timer!) for the forecast. We use the coordinates only to answer that request. We do not build a history of where you have looked, and we do not ask for your device location unless you press a button that says so.
Alerts (Premium)
If you turn on alerts, we store what is needed to send them: your phone’s push subscription or your Telegram chat ID, the sites you chose to watch (name, latitude and longitude), your alert times and choices, and your GO / NO-GO scoring rules. This is held in a database run by Upstash. Turning alerts off removes it.
Payments and your licence (Premium)
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach our servers. From Stripe we keep your email address, plan, subscription status, billing period end and the Stripe customer and subscription IDs. We also create a licence key for you.
After you buy or activate a key, the site sets one cookie, dw_lic, that proves you are a Premium member. It is needed for Premium to work, is not used for tracking, and is removed when you sign out.
Analytics and hosting
The site is hosted on Vercel and uses Vercel Web Analytics for page-view counts. It does not use cookies or follow you across other sites. Vercel keeps short-lived server logs, which can include your IP address, for security and reliability.
Who else handles data
- Stripe, for payments and billing.
- Vercel, for hosting and analytics.
- Upstash, for the alerts and licence database.
- Open-Meteo and 7Timer!, for weather data, which receive the coordinates in a forecast request.
- Telegram, if you choose Telegram alerts, and Apple, Google or Mozilla for browser push delivery.
Each of these has its own privacy policy.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep alert and licence records while your alerts are on or your subscription is active, and for a reasonable time afterwards. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires. To have your records deleted, write to the contact address for Dark Window, using the email you paid with or your licence key so we can find them.
Children
Dark Window is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Questions about your data can go to the contact address for Dark Window.
